Congratulations to all newly admitted students of Unilorin for this new session- 2012/13.
We are so glad that out of the large number of aspirants that have chosen the University of Ilorin- Better by Far University, currently being ranked 2nd best University in Nigeria- you have been chosen after the rigorous and daunting post utme exercise. It's only by Grace.
Being admitted is not the most important thing here at Unilorin. The most important thing to do now is to pass your exams and make good grades so as to CROSS TO THE NEXT LEVEL. That's it!
Being admitted is fairly a bit easier than crossing. If you are not better by far in performance then sorry, you can't be a student of better by far.
That's why we thought of letting you know how things are being run here so as to ensure your good grades and crossing.
First of all, let us make you understand that you can only cross over with a minimum G.P.- GRADE POINT of 1.5 or (1.0 for some departments) out of the 5 possible. That's roughly equivalent to passing half of all your courses with the minimum of C grade. So be prepared and focused- the battle is for the strong.
1. Always stay in class for lectures! That's the first and most important duty of a ready to be successful student. Your attendance may not be taken due to the population of students but make sure you don't miss classes. It starts out by you ignoring Simple GNS lecture which usually commences by 8am so beware.
2. Make good studious friends. Nobody flies solo in Unilorin. This is UniVersity environment that is so large that you may not always be aware of what's happening in another place where you would need info. So you need Good Studious friends who are clearly serious with their studies too. You don't also need too many friends, just enough to make a study group.
3. Read Read Read! Your notes are not for your bags, they are for you to read and re-read. Don't wait till exam time before you start reading- that'll be too late! Ask any student you know and that'll be made clearer to you.
4. Get Helpful materials from others! Many courses you'll be offering in the School will have past questions and answers and others will have helpful materials like downloaded materials relevant to your course of study. So try as much as possible to be closer to your class reps and scholars as they will be at the forefront of getting new materials for you. Also try and meet your seniors from the same department as they will also be of help with their notes too.
5. Minimise your extracurricular activities! Extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, partying, societies, politics etc are meant for students but not meant to distract their attentions to their studies, so minimise it to the barest minimum level. Don't make it a distraction.
6. Be attentive and alert in Lecture Rooms and Theatres for main points. I'm sure this needs no too much explanation. Have a separate jotter for jotting main points asides your notes, it's important especially for Science and Engineering Students.
7. Read information on Boards, listen to Unilorin 89.3 fm and check Unilorin Gist for latest info. Important info will always be shared on all these avenues so be alert and miss nothing. Your assignments, projects and class schedule will be shared on these platforms too. So check them frequently.
7. Finally, Acknowledge God and be good students. Be Obedient to the schools rules and regulations and your parents advices so that you don't face Tanke. There are Churches and Mosques for you all around the School Premises, attend the one that you believe will benefit you most. And success shall definitely be yours!
