THE CURRENT FUEL CRISIS AND
UNILORIN
Administration’s Palliative
Measures
The university Management has noted, with concern, the
hardship being experienced by the generality of the University community,
especially the students, who are more hit by the hardship occasioned by the
current fuel scarcity and its attendant effects on transportation.
Although the fuel problem is a national issue, the
University Administration, as a responsible and responsive body, considers it
appropriate to take prompt remedial action, after due consultation with staff
and students.
To this end, the University Administration has, therefore,
come up with the following palliative measures to cushion the effects of the
current fuel crisis:
-
It
has arranged for more buses outside those plying the University route with the view
to increasing the fleet of vehicles on the route.
-
In
the mean time, it has, in consultation with the relevant unions, suspended any
kind of road transport unionism and liberalized transportation to and from the
University Permanent site to allow for more willing vehicles to ply the
university route.
-
The
University has also procured fuel to be sold at subsidized rates to
transporters who are willing to ply the University routes.
-
Arrangements
have also been put in place to sell fuel to staff to ease their transportation
problem.
The University Administration, therefore, appeals to both
the staff and students to see these measures as concerted efforts to ease the
problems brought about by the current fuel crisis, while it will continue to
explore other ways of bringing relief to staff and students.
We sincerely hope that the Unilorin Management will bring about the enforcement of the second measure of suspending all kinds of road transport unionism and liberalize transportation to and from the Unilorin main campus as the unions have found ways of creeping back into the school system even working with the Students Union Government.
We say NO to transport Unionism in Unilorin!
